Running On Empty

girl walking down road

Running On Empty

Miles mean nothing
anymore and

You’re gauging life
by joy you leach
from dreams.

Getting tired you’re
losing steam, but
It’s when you’re
running on empty
when you’ve got
to burn the most

you’ve got to flee
while there’s still
a part of you

that’s worth

It’s when you think you’ve got nothing left that you’ve got to keep going. And faster than you’ve ever moved before.

Well, I hope you enjoyed this little scrap I posted above. It’s not a completed work but rather more of an idea I am toying with. Still, I thought it was one of those worth the posting.

Anywho, here’s to hoping your work day flies by and that you’re home safe and sound before ya know it.

Malevolent Monday

storm cloud over city

Malevolent Monday

Stumbling up that stairwell,
regretting the way that
‘going green’ makes you move,
creaking to the cubicle ,
and getting in’ta that
cruel sorta mood

Where you’re imagining Godzilla
out the winda’, reachin’ in and
snatching your boss straight up,
Bonds’ bazookas coming out of
your desk and exploding your
partner’s coffee cup,

Cobra Commander storming up the
stairs, waving his boys on in,
and Loki leaning on the water cooler
with that ‘you’re so screwed’ sort
of grin,

And there’s a thousand terrible scenarios
that you’d rather see unfold,
than deal with that endless wave of work
which no force of evil can

I don’t think I have to tell ya that it’s Monday, as I am sure you’re feeling it already. Above is just a crude little poem that plays to the inner geek in all of us, as I am sure you’ve had those mornings where you just wish something would come in and shake things up a little.

Anywho, I hope you enjoyed that lil’ ditty to start the week, and here’s to hoping that your Monday flies by quickly and that you don’t fell like you have to fear the rest of the week.

man and his dog

It’s all those small things
you’ll never notice,
those courtesies commonly used,
it’s the ‘hello, how are ya’s,
and all those ‘how do you do’s,

it’s the smiles freely given
and the late evening nods
of the head, and all those
strangers simply passing,
extending themselves without
words ever said,

compliments without conditions,
and wishes without desires,
it’s all the things we’d
never count that help us
pass the miles.

Happy Friday, folks. It’s finally here and I’m sure we’re all ready for it. Hope you enjoyed the words above and, even more so, I hope you have enough of those small little things to make your day just fly by. I swear it’s the kind compliments and the small smiles that keep me going around here, and it’s nice to stop once in a while and appreciate them.

Here’s to hoping your weekend is long, your drinks are cold, and you come out fightin’ on Monday.

Towards the Sun

picture of vivid sun next to a shadowed tree

Towards the Sun

Sometimes it’s good
to get blinded,
to let your fickle
sight get seared

to let distractions
burn to ash,
let vain lips dry
and chap,
thick skin burn
and fade,

to shed the shadows
you’ve been casting
and let all the past
trail behind, and
saunter solely into
that horizon
like a hero past
his time.

Well, the week’s almost halfway through. Make it through today, and you’re on the downslope, folks. You can do it, I’ve got faith in you. Anywho, the little diddy above is something that I hope you enjoy. It’s one of those things where, sometimes, you just have to realize you need to shed everything and go. You’ve gotta walk right towards that sun, and keep going despite all of your previous obligations and connections. You just need to go and let it all get left in your wake.

It’s often a last decision, but one that can downright save your life. Or your happiness, at the very least.

Special thanks to  jpaulocv for the amazingly vivid image.

Bitter Whine

The Bitter Whine

Mornings like this
make me wonder
why I ever gave
drinking up,

why I traded in
my shot glass
and took up
a coffee mug.

I shoulda joined
the band at the bar,
I could have been
famous, drinking
whiskey all the time,

but I had to go
and get educated
and now, all I ever
have to drink
is this bitter whine.

Mornin’, Folks. It’s Monday again, isn’t it? I’ve tried to ignore that fact myself. However, it’s there all the same and I hope you enjoy this short little crude rhyme and it at least gives you a lil bit to smile at as you start your week.

As for myself, I think I’ll have a bit of chateau de suck-it-up, and try my best to make it through the day 🙂

2000+ Thanks You’s (w/poem)

Thank You

Honestly, thank you.

It’s happened, folks. Over 2000 of you awesome individuals clicked the follow me button and, well, I am mighty grateful for it. Honestly, I can say how much I appreciate each and everyone of you who took the time to even stop by for a brief moment and look over a poem or two here.  Now, if you just wanna read my thank you poem, I suggest skipping to the end. If not, then let me fill you in on a little bit of the exciting news going on around here.

Firstly, I’ve had the honor of getting my poem “Indecision” freshly pressed. I can’t tell you what an awesome surprise that was, and it was an amazing pick me up. A little bit of an ego booster, so to speak.  There’s nothing like seeing something I put myself into actually get such a good deal of attention.  Secondly, I have been nominated by several of you for a handful of awards, all of which I completely honored and floored by. Those will all get their own post, and I’ll be mentioning you for the sake of being awesome enough to think of me.  Third, I’ll be launching my new facebook page soon, so you’ll want to keep an eye out for that folks, as I’ll be able to connect a bit better with all of you.

chocolate cupcake with pink frosting and sprinkles

Just in case you weren’t aware, for every 500 followers I get, I normally write a new poem….and I get myself a cupcake. Win-win, right?

Finally, I just have to say that, between getting freshly pressed, the sheer number of you amazing people, and the chance to actually connect more with everyone, that this has made the best birthday I have had in a very, very long time.  I honestly can’t remember a time when I’ve felt this good about life in general, nor when I’ve been this motivated to keep on, keepin’ on. Though it’s not officially till Sunday, I couldn’t possibly think of any other present that could make me feel so swell.

Thank you, honestly, for ever single second of your time. I can’t think of a single thing I value higher nor anything I’d rather have more.

As for the post, I’ve got a possessive little poem that’s just for you. Yep, you and only you. Think of it as my little ‘thank you’ for helping me limp my writing along. I really do appreciate it and, now, without further ado:

Your gaze,
my words,
our thoughts,

just, in this moment,
there is nothing
but us.

We exist
only in each other’s

my rhymes ghost
and your lips
lap this sentence:

that we are us,

an intimate assembly,
essences who flicker
in mutual envy

of our minds.

For me,

you will always be
audience enough.

Once again, thank you kindly, folks. I couldn’t do it without ya.

long stairwell

they aren’t cheap, kid,
and they’re gonna cost
every damned thing that
you’ve got to give,

And that’s a fact,
You can bet you’re life
on that, and if you’re smart
that’s exactly what you’ll

cause if you don’t,
well, what the hell else
is there worth holding
out for but those aspirations
on which we thrive?

See, in this world, you
either live and give
them all a little somethin’
to talk about, or simply
die and pass quietly
out of the world’s

Well, it’s finally here folks; it’s Friday. Hope you enjoy the little diddly of a poem I posted above. Just sayin’ that there isn’t really a whole lot more to live for than your dreams and highest aspirations. Making your mark on the world and all that. If you can’t tell, I like those little momento mori’s, those little ‘don’t forget we don’t last that long’ reminders.

Anywho, here’s to hoping that your weekend is long and rejuvenating, and that Monday finds you rearing and ready to take it face on.

Take Your Poet To Work Day

Robert Frost

Robert Frost

“Some say the world will end in fire
Some say in ice,
From what I’ve tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire
But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To say that, for destruction,
Ice is also great and would suffice”

                                          -Robert Frost

The above was typed from memory, so it might not be perfect; however, this is obviously Fire and Ice by Robert Frost, one of my favorite poets who, due to the occasion, is sitting on my desk (in the form of a printed picture). Why? Cause it’s take your poet to work day, folks. Even if you didn’t know it, print out a picture of your favorite prose master, and tape it to your desk for the day!

Anywho, in honor of it, I posted my favorite poem from Robert Frost above, and I highly recommend at least lookin up your favorite poem, and giving it a good read outloud. Hell, make up an excuse to belt out some lines at the water cooler. Anything to enjoy the spirit of the day 🙂

Feel free to post your poet of choice and your favorite poem below! I’d love to see what everyone’s poem of choice is!

confused man

Churning a wyrm within me
burrowing, feeding on fears
and leaching its life
from regrets, bad decisions
in memories yet the very
things we saw coming
but from which we were
too stupid to run

it sits in our minds
smug towards our sulking
mocking those ambitions
towards which we’ve
stopped walking, body
lethargic with its
parasitical grunge
mucking through our

it’s a damned deadly,
cunning thing, and if you
don’t sweat it out
it’ll never go away

It will eat you if you let it, folks.

It’s a damned if you do
damned if you don’t
sort of scenario,
one of those ‘long drag’
dilemmas that leaves
you with lungs full
of smoke and a head
full of air,
nothing running around
up there but doubts and
suspicion, that creeping
sense of indecision
taking up home where
ambition once roamed
and nesting nicely
in a bed of  shredded
dreams and care.

It’s happened again, hasn’t it, folks? You know what I’m talking about; it’s Monday. Maybe, if you spend a bit of time relaxing back and reading some poetry, you might just have an alright sort of start to the week. Of course, I’m talking specifically about my poetry, but my opinion’s a bit biased I suppose.

No matter how you decide to spend your day, I hope you enjoyed the post above. This one is, of course, about that nasty sort of situation that lets you chew on it, however, it ends up being one of those tough pieces of steak that, though you might get through it, it’s still left that sort of sour taste in your mouth. We get through ‘um, sure, but they were still hard to swallow.

Well, here’s hoping that you’re Monday isn’t as ‘Monday’ as it could be, and that the week treats you kindly.
