As always, here’s to hoping your day flies right on by and that you’ve got something cold and on the rocks waiting for you when you get home tonight.

Weekend Regrets and Reflections

Weekend Regrets and Reflections

Weekend Regrets and Reflections

It wasn’t like I could
help it.
Last night was a blur of
wishes and was-es
regrets and never-s
sighs and bellows
cries that life
hadn’t come home.

I waited all night,
all my life,
but I was left with
empty promises
unfulfilled dreams and
an unsatisfied
strife-
a fight that wasn’t worth
my time.

Well, another Monday, folks. Here we are again and here we go to another work week. Above I gave you a lil’ diddy that might just explain some of those regrets coming off a weekend high. Or a weekend hangover, for that matter. Either way, hope you enjoy and here’s to hoping you’re going to have a not so regretful Monday.

Till There’s Nothing Left to Feed Them

Till There’s Nothing Left to Feed Them

Wrestle with regrets
until your thoughts grow
tired
keep them bottled up
and you’ll be none the wiser
you shouldn’t hide from
demons but
go into dark to meet ‘um
fires will always burn
until there’s nothing left
to feed them.

Hey, folks. Halfway through the work we so far and hope you’re makin’ it through just fine. Wrote a little serious poem today. No jokes or jabs, just a little good advice given in a nicely sounding way. You’ll have to thank some wild fire’s for the last few lines as I just jotted them down while thinking about them and the rest of the poem just sort of fell into place. Gotta love when that happens, because it sure isn’t often.

Well, I hope you enjoyed it and, as always, I hope that your day flies on by and that you’ve got something cold and on the rocks waiting for you when you get home tonight.

Hanging On

Hanging On

Down and out
from being up
and down
still hanging on
but lacking solid
ground

Ready to place
my bets on
any sure sort
of chance
all while finding out
that I’m only
as good as my
regrets.

It’s short. It’s sweet. It’s Friday- and thank the entire universe for that! Well, we made it through another week, folks. Don’t know about yours, but mine’s been another interesting ride. Got that poem above there that sort of helped me feel out exactly how my head has been handling all this, and I’m sure that anyone who feels like they aren’t exactly on the most solid ground can relate. Kinda that point where you’re looking for anything that your feet won’t pass right on through to stand on.

Well, here’s to hoping that your weekend is long, your drinks are cold, and the world finds you ready to go another round!

Special thanks to mikhas for the awesome image today!

What Doesn’t Kill Me

Quote of A good laugh and a long sleep are the best cures for anything

What Doesn’t Kill me

What doesn’t kill me
only makes me
wonder
what hell comes next
what war to
sunder
the labors of my soul?

Sure, I’ll never falter
under ardor or
plunder
steps once weary only
grow fiercer
under
the weight this world brings.

Still, I’d be lying if I
said I wasn’t tired
fibbing
if I didn’t admit I seek
my own style of
living
where I can do what I damn well please.

Congrats to making it to the middle of the week, folks. I’m just lazily throwing up a nice little crude poem today that’s about how I know I will continue to make it through anything life throws at me, but I sure which it’s arm would give tired and it would give it a break. Would be nice, yeah?  Either way, hope you enjoy that little guy that came out of my notes from a few days ago. I thought he was worth throwing out there.

Well, here’s to hoping your work day is short, your mind at ease and that there’s something cold and on the rocks waiting for you when you get home tonight.

Finals Week

Hand reaching through paperwork

Finals Week

I’m gnawing paper
into bits
blowing ink bubbles
typing obscure phrases
just to fit
within a certain count

and my will is tapped
a well run dry
my mind’s a mess and
I contentiously
wonder why
I ever foolishly agreed
to pursue the ever
elusive degree

Hey there, folks. This crude little poem is one I whipped up last night when I realized I’d run out of time for working on any of my other poems I had planned. That being said, I’m down to the final two weeks of my semester, so my posts are going to be bit off. My apologizes, but ten page papers and tests that make up nearly half of my course grade await.

Hope you can pass this along to anyone else who has the end of semester stress, and I also hope that your day flies by and that you come home with something cold and on the rocks to look forwards to tonight.

After

Thanks For The Reminder

After

Thanks get given and
ceremonial dressage is
taken down
good words are silenced
shared meals eaten and
packed up
values are placed back on
shelves of the soul that
gather dust.

Well, you’ve made it to Friday, folks. Congratulations on lasting out another week, even if it was a short one for those turkey lovers out there!

Now, if you weren’t here reading yesterday, I’m including a link here to aid in the tornado recovery that struck my home town a week ago. EF-4 left some friends and family with nothing but a pile of splintered wood and a whole lot of trouble, and I’d be mighty grateful if you clicked the link and pushed a little love their way.  http://heroesmemorial.org/content/information-guide-washington-il .

Medium Well

Medium Well

I’m not done yet
but outsides gotten
a bit tough,
been through the wringer
and seered just enough
to develop thick skin
firm enough to chew
starting to grey that
heart and dim my
vivid hue.

Well, you’ve made it to Wednesday, folks. Halfway there and, hopefully, a good lot of you are looking forwards to some time off. It’s much needed, I imagine and I can tell you I am glad to have it.

Either way, I hope you enjoy the poem above. There are times when not even I can figure out why I’ve written a poem a certian way. And why the hell I decided to use a steak metaphor for myself and how I’ve been feeling lately, I’ll never know. Either way, if you’re feeling a little like me, like you’ve been in the fire a little too long and you’re starting to get over done, I hope you find some time to cool off and keep going on.

Aquila Non Est Capit Muscas

Eagle statue

Aquila non est capit muscas.

I watch eagles
catch their flies and
stray into the sun,
crash and burn,
they’ll never learn,
some battles are
just not worth
the price of
being won.

Hey there, folks. Got a little poem up there for ya, the title of which is adapted a little from the latin quote ‘aquila non capit muscas’ which means that eagles don’t catch flies. It’s a way of saying that grand people shouldn’t fret over the little things, and I think it’s a might fine way of sayin’ it. Adding in the word ‘est’ makes it say that eagles shouldn’t catch flies but, as the poem implies, we know they still do. All too many times either you or someone you know is guilty of finding something to hold onto that is just meaningless. That little poem above is a reminder that sometimes you just need to let go before the weight of it drags you down to its level.

Words For The Weary

man walking through tunnel

Words For The Weary

We can do this.

Sling our anchors
onto dreams and
pull through a
nother week filled
with the nuisance
of just being alive
and fulfilling such
lavish luxuries as
taxes and wanting to
eat while we think
the world is just
passing us by.

But we can have it.

We’ll get our cake
and eat it all while
laughing because we’re
tired and worn but never
bested and, my friends,
we’ll rest but only
when our drive is
burnt out, our fingers
ground to bone and
we’re satisfied with
where we’ve ended up
in our life and we’ve
got the time to watch
that sun fall and rise
whenever we

goddamned

please.

Oh, it’s the start of another week folks, and hopefully I can add a little reminder that (if you’re not exactly thrilled about that) you’ll get through it all. I know I need the little boost to believe that there’s more waiting for me than mornings with rum and coffee.

So, you might or might not have noticed that my posts have been a little scant lately. Reason for that was we had a nasty little twister come on through this area about a week back and that EF-4 did a little number on this town. Been a little hectic around here helping out friends and family while taking care of the house. That being said, if any of you are feeling generous, here’s a link to help out with the town’s recovery http://heroesmemorial.org/content/information-guide-washington-il .

Here’s to hoping that you’ve got a handle on this week, and that today flies on by and you find yourself relaxing at home in no time.
